Hollywood Legend Charlton Heston Dies, aged 84

Sad news this past week in Hollywood as living legend Charlton Heston died April 5^th at his home in Beverly Hills, California. Heston, perhaps best known for his roles in Ben-Hur and Planet of the Apes, had a career that spanned over 60 years. Charlton Heston, known as Chuck to friends (including the Reagan’s), was ruggedly handsome and had a classic face which allowed him to easily step into the role of Marc Antony in Julius Caesar or Moses in The Ten Commandments. Later in life, Heston would be best known for his avid support of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and would later serve as president of this organization. Charlton Heston was a man of virility and magnitude and he will always be remembered as such in his films.

Don’t Cry for Madonna; Cry for Her Dream to Re-Make Casablanca

Who can forget the scene from When Harry Met Sally when Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) are simultaneously watching Casablanca on television? This uber-romantic Hollywood movie moment may soon have competition with Madonna trying to re-make the 1942 Hollywood classic. Apparently, Madonna wants to star in the film and hopes to have the film remade in Iraq instead of, well, Casablanca. I wonder if Iraq has the same romantic ring as Casablanca? Thoughts?

Sadly, Madonna’s previous re-make with her husband Guy Ritchie Swept Away was quite the tanker. It should have never been re-made and let’s hope for the sake of this timeless American cinematic classic, Casablanca will remain untouched!

TV Show Jericho — Cancelled

Fans of cult hit TV show Jericho found out that the TV series has been cancelled by CBS – for a second time. Last year was the first time CBS cancelled the series – however, a fan campaign actually brought the show back on air. How cool is that? This inspiring story makes me want to start a fan campaign to get ALF back…

Jericho is about a small town in Kansas after the US has been nuclear attacked in all major cities. Due to its location, Jericho, KS is isolated and left to its own devices in a country that is completely changed after the attacks. Watch as the townspeople try to negotiate their new life and reconstruct a new community. Check out Season One available here at Tower.com!

Paul Scofield: Truly “A Man for All Seasons”

Oscar award winner Paul Scofield passed away this week at age 86 in a hospital not far from his home in Southern England. Scofield, who had been fighting Leukemia for quite some time, succumbed to the disease Wednesday March 19 leaving this world as a great man who will be remembered by all. Over the years Scofield was regarded as a legendary actor best known for his role as Sir Thomas More in “A Man for All Seasons.” Aside from that incredible performance, Scofield proved to be a stage actor at heart. With a salty weathered face and a voice from the throat of a lion, Paul Scofield left an impression on all that had the opportunity to watch this legend work.

He is survived through such films as “A Man for All Seasons”, “Henry V” and “Quiz Show”
