Thumbs Up - Roger Ebert Will Be Back in Action Soon!

News for Film Lovers Worldwide:

Yesterday, Roger Ebert announced that his most recent battle with cancer has been won for now – although his voice has not recovered from his surgery to remove throat cancer. He will not return to his syndicated program “Ebert & Roeper” however, he will continue to review films in Chicago Sun-Times. There is some hope that his voice will return after further surgery, and we are happy here at Tower.com to wish Roger Ebert all the best and we’re happy to see him back to reviewing films!

A New Season, a New You … with a little help from Eckhart Tolle

It’s official – Spring is here! Let me rephrase this: I know that Spring has sprung because I’ve started to clear out my closets, go to the gym and now I want to work on a better balanced self after the trials and tribulations of winter.

Who better than Eckhart Tolle to help inspire and motivate us into this new space of peace and happiness? His bestseller Power of Now looks at the importance of living in the moment and finding peace through recognizing the “nowness” we live in – Tolle suggests a type of carpe diem framework that will help to make us happy in our lives.

His latest book A New Earth (it just also happens to be the new Oprah Book Club pick too) forces us to look at humanity and how we can change the world through renouncing our own egoistical ways. Phew! That seems like a big project, but Tolle makes sense and shows us how to continue on this path to enlightenment. Inspired by various religious and sacred teachings, Tolle’s works help to bring about good changes in us – and what better time than now?!

TV Show Jericho — Cancelled

Fans of cult hit TV show Jericho found out that the TV series has been cancelled by CBS – for a second time. Last year was the first time CBS cancelled the series – however, a fan campaign actually brought the show back on air. How cool is that? This inspiring story makes me want to start a fan campaign to get ALF back…

Jericho is about a small town in Kansas after the US has been nuclear attacked in all major cities. Due to its location, Jericho, KS is isolated and left to its own devices in a country that is completely changed after the attacks. Watch as the townspeople try to negotiate their new life and reconstruct a new community. Check out Season One available here at Tower.com!

Israel “Cachao” Lopez, Mambo Pioneer Dies

One of the pioneers in Cuban mambo passed away last week in Florida at age 89. Israel “Cachao” Lopez (1918-2008) was instrumental in bringing Cuban mambo to popularity in the 1950s in the US and is arguably one of the most important figures of the mambo movement. Check out his album Ahora Si! to hear some of his greatest songs. He began his career in the 1930s and would became a type of ambassodor to Cuban sound/music. In fact, Andy Garcia asked Cachao to write songs that appeared on The Lost City soundtrack and his songs are featured in other films like The Birdcage and videogame Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Soundtrack. His legacy will live on through his music and Tower.com will remember ‘Cachao’ as an incredible musician and a man before his time.
