Tower Blog

Welcome!

It is with great pleasure that we begin our official weblog at Tower. We’d like to take a bit of space to introduce our philosophy and perspective in general as a way to kick off what we hope will be an on-going resource for music, movies, books and other assorted items of interest that we hope to share with you through this medium. We at Tower.com invite users, visitors, and fans alike to check out our blog space for reviews, site-wide promotions (such as the Tower Essentials Sale & Great Gift Ideas section), contests, up and coming giveaways, entertainment information and other related Tower.com news.

We welcome you to discover, select, share, and discuss the music, video, and books that appeal to you. In addition, our highly qualified and dedicated staff, comprised of break-in “tastemakers” & “connoisseurs” of all walks of media, will be there to discuss and share the entertainment we love.

The new Tower Blog will serve as an online platform providing commentary or news on the most current, relevant and hottest Artists, Labels, Films, Books and all entertainment items for YOU. The Tower Blog Section combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs so in turn we encourage ALL visitors, consumers, and fans alike to register and contribute, comment and most of all participate! The new Tower Blog will be comprised of textual info, art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting) all of which will be part of our wider network of social media.

Tower Tribute

Andy Palacio Tribute

We at Tower.com recognize the talents – the iconic musicians, the legendary artists, and their indelible markings of music, film and literature – that have passed away as we pay homage to them by keeping both their works and names alive relevant in our Tower Tribute page. The Tower Tribute gives an overview of artists, musicians, filmmakers, as well as relevant entertainment figures who have made significant contributions to their respective field and who deserve to be remembered for such involvement in the industry and culture. And so, we salute those who have left us and urge all visitors to help pay tribute to those who have fallen but will never be forgotten.

Tower has Great Gift Ideas for EVERYONE on your list

Our gift section goes way beyond the “for him” and “for her” mentality of some other sites. Instead, we choose to create specialized gift lists, hand picked by our team of tastemakers, and focus on finding that perfect something for all the special events, holidays and celebratory occasions of each month.

Tower provides book lists for children, teens, and adults, as well as providing links to many other Black History resources. In order to spread the awareness we are providing an online supply of items (see our Video and Books Section) to help commemorate Black History Month.

Celebrating Women in Rock

Ye Schools of Thought

College Dropout Late Registration Graduation

Kanye West

2008 GRAMMY AWARD WINNER

Kanye West’s Graduation album is the winner of the following 2008 Grammy Awards:

  • Best Rap Solo Performance (”Stronger”)
  • Best Rap Song (”Good Life”)
  • Best Rap Album

Given the remarkable critical and commercial success of 2005’s LATE REGISTRATION, Kanye West’s rich, rewarding sophomore release, expectations were high for 2007’s GRADUATION. Ever savvy, West flouts those expectations by delivering a record that delivers curveballs while staying true to his sharply sculpted, commercially minded m.o. West’s rapping, never his greatest strength, is still entertaining. He delivers witty, smart, sometimes absurd rhymes (he seems to take more lyrical chances on GRADUATION) that fit nicely with the overall feel of his tracks.

As usual, it’s West’s productions that stand out. While there are examples of his style-defining use of classic R&B samples and background choirs (as on the feel-good highlight “I Wonder”), West streamlines his sound to center on synth-driven lines, giving many of the tracks a retro-electro new wave feel. “Stronger,” for example, another standout, is powered by a vocoder-drenched vocal sample, which implies that West might have been listening to more Kraftwerk than Motown to get hyped. The overall results make for a fun, inventive album that offers proof that West still has tricks up his sleeve.
